Faecal Sludge Management (FSM): FSM entails comprehensive handling of sludge from on-site sanitation systems, ensuring safe collection, transportation, treatment, and disposal. Key challenges include desludging of single pits and septic tanks in hilly and difficult terrains and innovative in-situ management of faecal sludge. Background: Conventional vacuum desludging vehicles cannot operate in hilly terrains, narrow lanes, or areas where suction depth requirements exceed equipment capacity. No appropriate mechanized desludging solution exists for these challenging environments. Description: Develop low cost innovative mechanized desludging models specifically suited to varied climatic zones and hilly terrains. Address challenges such as: extending reach of equipment beyond current limits, overcoming vacuum suction limitations at depth, and managing viscous sludge that requires excess water or manual stirring. Expected Solution: A portable, adaptable low-cost desludging equipment system for varied climate zones & hilly terrains in the specialized features including: (a) reach via flexible hose + booster pump systems for deeper pits, (b) extendable handling of viscous sludge with in-situ dilution or mechanical agitation, (c) easy portability & operable on two-wheelers or handcarts in hilly and narrow-lane settings. Should include safety protocols for operators. Potential Impact: Safe FSM in geographically challenging areas; extended reach of mechanized desludging services to all rural households.

Nobody has submitted an idea against this one yet. 13 of the 258 statements are still on zero, so an empty count this early says the field has not arrived, not that the statement is bad.

Added mid-season. This statement first appeared on 1 October, after the original list went out. Teams who shortlisted early have most likely never seen it.

Counted from the official portal twice a day. The portal itself only shows today.

What a jury will ask about this

  1. 01“Who actually faces this problem today?”

What works: Naming one real person and what they do instead right now. Reading the statement back is not an answer, they already read it.

  2. 02“This already exists. Why yours?”

What works: That existing tools are consumer products. Yours is built for the ministry, works offline, in the local language, on official data.

  3. 03“Then why has nobody solved it yet?”

What works: The real blocker. No connectivity, no incentive, nobody owns the data. You only know this if you read the ministry's own reports.
