Student Innovation-There is a need to design drones and robots that can solve some of the pressing challenges of India such as handling medical emergencies, search and rescue operations, etc.

The brief on this one is a single line, and that is not an oversight. Student Innovation statements come from AICTE rather than a ministry, and they do not describe a problem. They name a direction — Robotics and Drones — and leave you to find the problem inside it yourself.

Teams pick these because they look easier. They are not. On a ministry statement, the ministry has already argued that the problem matters and who it hurts. Here nobody has done that for you, so your presentation has to carry the work the statement usually does: what the problem is, who suffers from it today, and how you know that rather than assume it. Evaluators feel the difference immediately between a team that found a real problem and one that invented a plausible-sounding one.

Practically, that means one extra slide's worth of evidence before you ever describe your solution. A number from a government report, a survey you actually ran, an interview with somebody who lives with the problem. Any of those puts you ahead of most of the field, because on an open statement most of the field skips straight to the build.
