Background

Agarbatti making is a key home-based livelihood for rural women, but traditional drying methods depend on weather and often cause uneven drying, moisture issues, and loss of fragrance, reducing product quality and income. Hence, there is a need for an affordable smart drying and packaging system suitable for rural household-based production.

Description

Traditional agarbatti drying is slow, weather-dependent, and leads to uneven drying, fragrance loss, fungal growth, and breakage, reducing product quality and income for rural women artisans.

Therefore, there is a need for a smart solar-powered drying chamber with temperature and humidity control for uniform, hygienic, all-weather drying, along with a low-cost packaging system to preserve fragrance, improve shelf life, and enhance marketability.

Expected Solution

The proposed solution is a compact, low-cost, solar-powered smart drying chamber for rural home-based agarbatti production, along with a simple packaging/sealing device to ensure moisture resistance, fragrance preservation, and improved product quality and shelf life.

The system should include

• Solar-powered controlled drying mechanism • Temperature and humidity sensors • Uniform airflow and hygienic enclosed chamber • Portable and easy-to-operate design • Fragrance-preserving drying conditions • Battery backup support • Optional AI/IoT-based monitoring and alerts Packaging Support • Low-cost moisture-resistant and aroma-preserving packaging • Compact sealing/packaging mechanism suitable for SHGs/women artisans • Eco-friendly packaging options

How a winner reads this one

Nobody has picked this one yet

Read the title to the end. Drying and compact packaging. Half the statement is the packaging, and most teams will build a dryer and forget the second half entirely. Covering both is the cheapest way to stand out here.

The other thing hiding in plain sight is who this is for. Home-based manufacturing by rural women artisans. Not a factory. Not a cooperative. A home. That single constraint decides everything: it has to fit in a room somebody also lives in, it has to be affordable to a household, and it has to work for someone who will not be trained on it.

So name the price. A solar drying chamber that costs more than a few thousand rupees is a chamber nobody buys, and the ministry raising this knows the number better than you do. A team that says what theirs costs and why sounds like it has met the user. A team that says affordable sounds like it has not.

And fragrance retention is the actual quality measure here, not dryness. Say how you would test it.

What a jury will ask about this

  1. 01“Who actually faces this problem today?”

What works: Naming one real person and what they do instead right now. Reading the statement back is not an answer, they already read it.

  2. 02“This already exists. Why yours?”

What works: That existing tools are consumer products. Yours is built for the ministry, works offline, in the local language, on official data.

  3. 03“Then why has nobody solved it yet?”

What works: The real blocker. No connectivity, no incentive, nobody owns the data. You only know this if you read the ministry's own reports.
